Laura Serrani

Laura is an integrative trained Counsellor and Psychotherapist, registered Member MBACP.

From Laura:

I have always been passionate about cultures and languages. This made me move to different countries and experience the challenges of integration as well as finding a sense of belonging. My work with adults has been inspired by working with children and how difficult childhood experiences might continue to influence adult dynamics.

Life challenges along with changes and transitions might feel daunting at times. You might be overwhelmed by workload or work-related dynamics, fearful of a career change, feeling in the wrong place or confused about your life values, finding it difficult to navigate cultural and linguistic diversity, and frustration and anger might get in the way. You might feel nostalgic for your country or stuck in your gender agenda with repercussions on social and romantic relationships. I offer you a safe and confidential space to explore your feelings, emotions, and thoughts in ways that make you feel comfortable and not judged. I work collaboratively, supporting your journey of self-discovery and enhancing your capacity for self-determination. I offer therapy in English and Italian. My work is culturally and linguistically sensitive.

I use a variety of tools to help clients become more resilient and boost their self-esteem so that they can feel more powerful in their lives and make more conscious choices. I offer face-to-face and online therapy. My approach is integrative, drawing from person-centred therapy, psychodynamics, Gestalt therapy, and CBT. I have a special interest in Mindfulness and Coaching, which I incorporate into my practice too.

I worked in a variety of contexts, had some career changes, and worked in recruitment, non-profit, private, and education settings. I grew up in Italy, where I graduated in Philosophy. I started my journey as a therapist in 2012 after working several years as a Dyslexia tutor. I first trained as a Gestalt Counsellor in Italy, working with adults in private practice. I then moved to London and furthered my career qualifying as a Counselor and Psychotherapist for children and adolescents. I have been working in NMH/DSA provisions since 2020, providing mentoring support to students of colleges and universities of different ages and cultural backgrounds. I currently manage a school-based counseling service in London.

My areas of expertise include abuse, domestic violence, neglect, SpLds, ASD, ADHD, trauma, parenting, stress, career change, family and relationship conflicts, acculturation processes, multilingual dynamics, and anxiety.

I am available for face-to-face/online sessions on Tuesday afternoons at Caya Therapy in Peckham.
