Margo Jackson

Margo is a Child & Adolescent Counsellor with the Arts offering short and long term individual counselling to children aged 4–18. She works at Caya on Mondays and Wednesdays.

From Margo:

I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor with a background in the arts and education. At the heart of my work is the belief that every child deserves to feel seen, heard and accepted. I create a warm, non-judgemental space for children and young people to feel at ease whilst exploring and processing their feelings and worries.

My training at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE) has equipped me with a strong foundation in integrating the Arts into therapeutic practice. I use a combination of talking and the Arts, adapting to the needs and preferences of the child or young person. This allows them to explore feelings that can be hard to put into words. However, using the Arts is never a requirement and some clients might prefer to simply talk things through.

My approach is psychodynamic, grounded in psychoanalysis, attachment theory, child development and neuroscience and I work in a trauma-informed way that respects each young person’s pace and unique story.

I support children and young people with a range of emotional challenges, including:

  • Anxiety and overwhelm

  • Bereavement and loss

  • Childhood trauma

  • Conflict and family challenges

  • Emotional regulation

  • Family separation and divorce

  • Feelings of anger

  • Friendships

  • GCSE and A-Level exam pressure

  • Gender and LGBTQ+ Identity

  • Identity and sense of self

  • Impact of COVID

  • Life transitions and change

  • Low mood and sadness

  • Low self-esteem and confidence

  • Neurodiversity

  • Relationship difficulties

  • School-related challenges

  • Self harm

In addition to my private practice at Caya, I work as a school counsellor in both primary and secondary school settings in Lambeth and Croydon. This gives me an ongoing understanding of the day-to-day challenges young people face in educational settings and how therapy can support them.

Before becoming a therapist I worked as a primary school teacher. Having become increasingly drawn to the pastoral side of teaching, I made the transition to retrain as a therapist.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, MBACP, and I hold an enhanced DBS check.

If you are wondering whether therapy is the right step for your child, I offer an initial 15-minute phone call where we can have a chat and arrange an initial parent consultation. Please get in touch by clicking on the button below or by email.
