Low-Cost Family and Relationships Psychotherapy Service
Friday mornings
The Low-Cost Family and Relationships Psychotherapy Service is a training service at Caya delivered in partnership with King’s College London. The service is led by a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist and includes four Systemic Practitioners who are undertaking advanced training in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy at King’s College London. The Systemic Practitioners come from a range of professional backgrounds and work in health or social care. They receive regular supervision and support as part of their training.
Family and Systemic Psychotherapy offers a collaborative way of thinking about difficulties that you, your family or the people who are important to you may be experiencing. We bring together different perspectives and ideas to help you make sense of what is happening and explore possible ways forward.
Sessions are fortnightly on Friday mornings
Who can take part?
You can decide who you would like to involve in the sessions. This might include family members, partners, parents, siblings, relatives, friends or professionals who are important to you. You do not need to attend with your whole family. We can talk together about who might be helpful to involve and what would feel right for you.
What happens in a session?
A Lead Therapist, who is one of our Systemic Practitioners, will meet with you and the people you have invited to talk about your concerns and what you would like help with.
Other members of the team will listen to the conversation from another room and think together about what they are hearing. At an appropriate point in the session, the team will share their reflections and ideas with you.
Our aim is not to tell you what you should do. Instead, we work collaboratively with you to explore different perspectives, understand your relationships and experiences, and consider new possibilities for moving forward.
Sessions normally last up to one hour.
Recording and confidentiality
With your consent, sessions may sometimes be recorded. Recordings can provide an opportunity to review conversations and, where appropriate, may be used together with you during a session to explore communication and relationships in greater detail.
Recording is always discussed with you beforehand, and sessions will only be recorded with your agreement. Confidentiality, the use of recordings and how information is shared will be explained and discussed with you during the first session.
Christopher Loh - Service Lead
Christopher Loh is a UKCP registered Family and Systemic Psychotherapist working with individuals, couples and families.
From Christopher:
I am a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist in the NHS and Course Director of Family Therapy at King’s College London. At Caya Therapy, I lead and supervise the Family and Systemic Psychotherapy Service, a training service involving Systemic Practitioners undertaking advanced training at King’s College London.
I believe that our experiences are shaped by our relationships and the wider contexts in which we live. I therefore work with people to explore different perspectives and ways of understanding their difficulties, rather than focusing only on the individual or the problem.
I aim to create a space where people feel heard and able to talk openly about what matters to them. Together, we can explore relationships, experiences and patterns of communication, and consider new possibilities for moving forward.
I trained as a social worker in Singapore before training in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy at King’s College London. I subsequently completed a Professional Doctorate in Systemic Psychotherapy at the Tavistock Centre. Alongside my clinical work, I teach and supervise family and systemic psychotherapy students.
