Mariana Lauria
Mariana is a fully trained existential psychotherapist working with adults.
From Mariana:
I came to this work through a genuine interest in people and relationships. Much of how we come to understand ourselves and the shifting world around us happens through encounters with other people.
This is rarely simple. The ways we have learnt to meet ourselves and others can keep us close to familiar ways of being, even when they no longer feel helpful, and can make it harder to move in the direction we want.
Existential psychotherapy is concerned with how you live your life within the context of your past experiences and current circumstances. It pays attention to agency, meaning, and the realities you are living within, and to what begins to open up when things are met differently.
The way I work
I believe that in therapy, you have the opportunity to get in touch with what feels unfamiliar or uncertain, and with what needs clarity and space to be (re)discovered.
From this position, I work in a non-pathologising way. I am interested in the particular ways you see and engage with the world, rather than reducing your experience to symptoms and labels. Together, we bring awareness to the assumptions through which you understand yourself, your choices, and the realities you are living within.
In the room, I work with thoughts, feelings, emotions, and bodily experience as part of the same conversation. I pay attention to how experience is felt as well as thought, and how meaning emerges through both.
I work inclusively with people across gender, sexuality, and cultural background, and with an awareness of the wider contexts that shape how we live and relate. I favour long-term weekly work. Sessions last 50 minutes.
You do not need to arrive with clarity. We start where you are.
