Mariana Lauria

Mariana is a fully trained existential psychotherapist working with adults.

From Mariana:

I came to this work through a genuine interest in people and relationships, and in how our lives are shaped through our encounters with others.

This is rarely simple. The ways we have learnt to meet ourselves and others can keep us in familiar ways of being, even when they no longer feel helpful, making it harder to imagine that a different way is possible.

Existential psychotherapy is concerned with how you live within the context of your past experiences and current circumstances. It offers a space to reflect on the meanings you make and how these shape the life you are living.

The way I work

In therapy, you have the opportunity to get in touch with what feels unfamiliar or uncertain, and with what needs clarity and space to be (re)discovered.

From this position, I work in a non-pathologising way. I am interested in the particular ways you see and engage with the world, rather than reducing who you are to labels or symptoms. Together, we become curious about how you have come to understand yourself and how you want to live.

In the room, I work with thoughts, feelings, and bodily experience as part of the same conversation. I pay attention to how experience is felt as well as thought, and how meaning emerges through both.

Some people come to therapy in the midst of crisis and deep pain. Others come because they are curious about one aspect of their lives, or because something has quietly stopped making sense.

I work inclusively with people of all genders, sexualities, and cultural backgrounds, and with an awareness of the wider contexts that shape how we live and relate. I favour long-term weekly work. Sessions last 50 minutes.

Wherever you are, we will begin there.
